## Each Top Charge Ended in a Conviction on That Article

All 19 cases charging Article 134 ended in a conviction on that article (100%). The same was true for all 17 Article 128 cases, all 16 Article 92 cases, and all 10 Article 107 cases.

Confinement differed by charge. When the conviction included Article 134, the median was 1.2 years. It was 10 months for Article 128, 5 months for Article 92, and 4 months for Article 107\. Because a case can carry several articles, the rows overlap.

| Article | Cases charging it | Convicted of it (share) | Median confinement when convicted of it |

## Plea Records and Contested Shares

38 of the 70 Quantico records show the plea. Many Navy and Marine Corps records from before December 2020 leave out the plea and forum, so this section relies on the 38 that include it. 25 were guilty pleas and 13 were not-guilty or mixed pleas. The contested share was 34%, compared with 48% at Mayport.

At Quantico, 50% of general courts-martial were contested, compared with 25% of special courts-martial. Article 128 cases ended in a guilty plea 71% of the time (10 of 14), the highest among the top charges. Article 134 cases ended in a guilty plea 46% of the time (6 of 13). No reason for a plea appears in the records.

## Length of Confinement

Of 60 Quantico convictions, 45 included confinement. The median term was 6 months, about the same as the 6 months at Mayport. A quarter of the Quantico sentences were 1.5 years or longer.

13 of 60 Quantico convictions (22%) carried more than one year, compared with 28% at Mayport. No confinement was more common at Quantico: 25% of convictions, compared with 16%. The share for 6 months to 1 year was 22% at both installations.

The figures are adjudged sentences. They come from the trial itself, so later plea-agreement caps, clemency, and appeals are not reflected. Each sentence covers the whole case.

| Adjudged confinement | Convictions | Share here | Share, Mayport, Florida |
| ------------------------------- | ----------- | ---------- | ----------------------- |
| No confinement | 15 | 25% | 16% |
| Under 6 months | 19 | 32% | 34% |
| 6 months to 1 year | 13 | 22% | 22% |
| More than 1 year, under 5 years | 10 | 17% | 24% |
| 5 years or more | 3 | 5% | 3% |

## Court Level

25 of the 70 Quantico cases were general courts-martial (36%). At Mayport, the general share was 59%. The median confinement was 1.6 years in Quantico general courts-martial and 3 months in the 45 special courts-martial.

The two levels have different limits. A general court-martial can impose any lawful sentence, and it is the only level that can order more than a year of confinement or a dishonorable discharge. A special court-martial stops at one year.

## Discharges and Rank

60% of enlisted convictions at Quantico ended with a punitive discharge, meaning a bad-conduct or dishonorable discharge: 23 bad-conduct and 12 dishonorable. At Mayport, the share was 52%. 1 convicted officer or warrant officer appears, and none was dismissed. An administrative separation can still follow a sentence that has no punitive discharge.

Among the accused with rank recorded, 41 were junior enlisted members (E-1 to E-4), 17 were NCOs (E-5 to E-9), and 1 was an officer or warrant officer. At Mayport, 57% of the accused were junior enlisted, so the Quantico group was more junior.

## Cases by Year

Quantico had 12 cases in 2019, 12 in 2020, 17 in 2021, 15 in 2022, and 14 in 2023\. The two installations tried a similar number of cases, so the page compares shares, not counts.

## What Is Not in the Records

The records show when a trial took place, not when the offense happened. They do not describe the evidence or the plea terms. Nonjudicial punishment and administrative separations are outside these records.
