## Punitive Discharges Were More Common

Of 12 convicted enlisted members, 9 received a punitive discharge: 6 bad-conduct discharges and 3 dishonorable discharges. That share, 75%, is higher than the 64% across the Navy and Marine Corps.

A sentence without a punitive discharge does not rule out a later administrative separation.

## Every Conviction Included Confinement

Confinement was part of all 12 convictions (100%). The median confinement was 8 months, compared with 7 months across the Navy and Marine Corps. A quarter of the confinement terms were 1.2 years or longer.

These are adjudged sentences, before any plea-agreement cap, clemency, or appeal. Each sentence covers every charge in the case.

## Pleas and Verdicts

The plea is recorded in 12 of the 17 cases. In 8, the accused pleaded guilty. The other 4 were contested, meaning a not-guilty or mixed plea. The contested share, 33%, is about the same as the 32% service-wide.

None of the 4 contested cases that reached a verdict ended in a full acquittal.

## Junior Enlisted Accused

Among the accused with rank recorded, 11 were junior enlisted members (E-1 to E-4) and 1 was an NCO (E-5 to E-9). No officers or warrant officers were tried. Across the Navy and Marine Corps, 69% of the accused were junior enlisted.

There were 7 general and 10 special courts-martial. The general share, 41%, is lower than the 48% service-wide. A special court-martial caps confinement at one year and cannot impose a dishonorable discharge.

## Kaneohe Bay and Mayport

Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay tried 22 cases and Mayport, Florida tried 24\. The median confinement was 6 months at Kaneohe Bay and 1.5 years at Mayport, compared with 8 months at Quantico. Mayport had the highest contested share of the 3, at 42%, and 2 of its 10 contested cases that reached a verdict ended in a full acquittal.
