**Short answer:** Pearl Harbor, Hawaii had 11 courts-martial charging Article 107 (false official statement) from 2014 to 2018\. The median confinement was 3 months, compared with 6 months in all Navy and Marine Corps Article 107 cases in 2014–2018\. 18% of the cases were contested, compared with 25% across the Navy and Marine Corps.

Based on 11 cases · 2014–2018 · Navy and Marine Corps records · data updated October 24, 2026

## Drug Charges in the Same Cases

Article 112a (drug) was the most common other charge, in 6 of the 11 cases. Article 128 (assault) appeared in 2\. Article 134 (general article), Article 113 (misbehavior of a sentinel), and Article 80 (attempt) appeared in 1 each.

Across the Navy and Marine Corps, 20 of 203 Article 107 cases in these years charged the false official statement alone. The sentence in each case covers every charge, so the sentence figures below describe the whole case and not the false statement by itself.

## Confinement in Each Sentence

There were 11 convictions, and all 11 sentences included confinement. The median confinement was 3 months. Among the sentences with confinement, a quarter were 6 months or longer.

Across all Navy and Marine Corps Article 107 cases in the same years, the median was 6 months. These are adjudged sentences: the sentence announced at trial, before any plea-agreement cap, clemency, or appeal.

## Mostly Special Courts-Martial

9 of the 11 cases were special courts-martial and 2 were general courts-martial. The general court-martial share was 18%, compared with 36% in Navy and Marine Corps Article 107 cases overall.

A special court-martial can impose up to one year of confinement and a bad-conduct discharge, but not a dishonorable discharge. A general court-martial can impose any lawful sentence.

## Guilty Pleas and Contested Cases

9 accused pleaded guilty and 2 contested at least one charge. A contested case is one with a not-guilty or mixed plea. The contested share was 18%, lower than the 25% across all Navy and Marine Corps Article 107 cases in 2014–2018.

## Punitive Discharges

Of the 10 enlisted members convicted, 6 received a bad-conduct or dishonorable discharge (60%). 2 of the 6 were dishonorable discharges. That rate was about the same as the 57% service-wide.

1 officer or warrant officer was convicted and was not dismissed. A sentence without a punitive discharge does not rule out a later administrative separation.

## Rank of the Accused and Timing

Junior enlisted members (E-1 to E-4) were 55% of the accused, NCOs were 36%, and officers were 9%. In Navy and Marine Corps Article 107 cases overall, junior enlisted members were 50% of the accused.

The trials ran from March 2014 to August 2018: 4 in 2014, 1 in 2015, 2 in 2016, 3 in 2017, and 1 in 2018\. These cases were 16% of the 70 courts-martial at Pearl Harbor in those years.

## Limits of the Records

Every trial took place before January 1, 2019, when the Military Justice Act of 2016 took effect, so its changes to panel sizes, judge-alone special courts-martial, and plea agreements did not apply. The records give trial dates, not offense dates. They do not show the evidence, the plea terms, or cases handled by nonjudicial punishment. Navy and Marine Corps records before December 2020 often omit the plea, and the plea counts here use only records that list it.
