**Short answer:** Mayport, Florida held 12 courts-martial in 2024\. 58% of the cases with a plea recorded were contested, compared with 34% across the Navy and Marine Corps, and the median confinement was 10 months, compared with 5 months service-wide. NCOs made up 82% of the accused.

Based on 12 cases · 2024 · Navy and Marine Corps records · data updated October 24, 2026

## A Higher Contested Share

The 12 trials ran from January 2024 to September 2024\. Of these, 7 had a not-guilty or mixed plea and 5 had a guilty plea, a contested share of 58%. Across all Navy and Marine Corps cases that year, the contested share was 34%.

A contested case is one where the accused pleads not guilty to at least one charge. None of the 7 contested cases that reached a verdict here ended in a full acquittal (0 of 7).

## Longer Median Confinement

Confinement was part of 67% of the 12 convictions. The median confinement was 10 months, compared with 5 months across the Navy and Marine Corps. Among sentences with confinement, a quarter were 2.5 years or longer.

These are adjudged sentences, set at trial before any plea-agreement cap, clemency, or appeal. Each sentence covers every charge in the case.

## Punitive Discharges

Among 11 convicted enlisted members, 6 received a bad-conduct or dishonorable discharge (55%). The Navy and Marine Corps rate was 58%, about the same. 1 of the 6 was a dishonorable discharge. A sentence without a punitive discharge does not rule out a later administrative separation.

## Assault Led the Charge List

Charges are listed for all 12 cases. Assault under Article 128 appeared in 4 cases (33%), compared with 16% across the Navy and Marine Corps. Child endangerment (Article 119b), rape and sexual assault (Article 120), larceny (Article 121), and the general article (Article 134) each appeared in 2 cases (17%).

Article 119b was charged in 2% of cases service-wide, and Article 120 in 7%. A case with several articles is counted under each one.

## Law Changes and Record Limits

Since December 28, 2023, special trial counsel, not commanders, decide whether to prosecute covered offenses such as sexual assault, domestic violence, and murder. For offenses after December 27, 2023, the military judge sets the sentence within new sentencing parameters. Both rules depend on the offense date, which the records do not give, so 2024 trials include cases under both the old and new rules.

The records also leave out nonjudicial punishment, administrative separations, the evidence, and the plea terms.
