**Short answer:** The records list 11 courts-martial at Mayport, Florida in 2022, down from 24 in 2021\. Contested cases made up 64% of those with a plea recorded, compared with 33% across the Navy and Marine Corps. Full acquittals came in 3 of the 7 contested cases that reached a verdict.

Based on 11 cases · 2022 · Navy and Marine Corps records · data updated October 24, 2026

## Most Accused Contested at Least One Charge

Of the 11 cases, 7 had a not-guilty or mixed plea and 4 had a guilty plea. That is a contested share of 64%. Across all Navy and Marine Corps cases in 2022, the contested share was 33%.

A case counts as contested when the accused pleads not guilty to at least one charge. A mixed plea, guilty to some charges and not guilty to others, also counts as contested.

## Full Acquittals and Sentences

Of the 7 contested cases that reached a verdict, 3 ended in a full acquittal, meaning not guilty of all charges. In 2021 the figure was 2 of 10.

Confinement was part of 6 of the 8 convictions. The median confinement was 5 months, compared with 1.5 years in 2021\. These are adjudged sentences, set at trial before any plea-agreement cap, clemency, or appeal.

Among the 8 convicted enlisted members, 4 received a punitive discharge. A punitive discharge is a bad-conduct or dishonorable discharge. A sentence without one does not rule out a later administrative separation.

## Article 80 Was the Most Common Charge

Charges are listed for all 11 cases. Attempts under Article 80 appeared in 3 cases (27%), compared with 6% across the Navy and Marine Corps. Article 109 (property other than military; waste, spoilage, destruction) appeared in 2 cases (18%), compared with 1% service-wide.

Article 134, Article 92, and Article 112a each appeared in 2 cases (18%). Assault under Article 128 appeared in 1 case (9%), lower than the 23% across the service. A case with several articles is counted under each one.

Junior enlisted members (E-1 to E-4) made up 55% of the accused and NCOs made up 45%. No officers were tried. Across the rest of the Navy and Marine Corps, junior enlisted members made up 65%.

General courts-martial made up 6 of the 11 cases (55%), and special courts-martial made up the rest. In 2021, general courts-martial were 83% of cases. A general court-martial can impose any lawful sentence, including a dishonorable discharge. A special court-martial caps confinement at one year and cannot impose a dishonorable discharge.

## Compared With 2021 and With Nearby Installations

The contested share went from 42% in 2021 to 64% in 2022\. Punitive discharges for convicted enlisted members went from 67% to 4 of 8\. With this few cases, 1 or 2 cases can move any of these figures, so the changes show direction, not precise size.

Jacksonville, Florida tried 23 cases and San Diego, California tried 27 in the same year. All 3 installations had a median confinement of 5 months. Jacksonville's contested share was 35%, and San Diego's was 59%.

## What the Records Leave Out

The records show charges, pleas, findings, and sentences. They do not show the evidence, the plea terms, or conduct handled by nonjudicial punishment or administrative separation. They give trial dates, not offense dates.
