Based on 13 cases · 2013 · Navy and Marine Corps records · data updated October 24, 2026

## Punitive Discharges in 9 of 10 Enlisted Convictions

Among 10 enlisted members convicted, 9 received a bad-conduct or dishonorable discharge (90%). Of those 9, 3 were dishonorable. Across the Navy and Marine Corps in 2013, the share was 64%.

A sentence without a punitive discharge does not rule out a later administrative separation.

## Confinement

Confinement was part of 100% of the 10 convictions. The median confinement was 4 months, compared with 6 months across the service. A quarter of the sentences were 2 years or longer.

These are adjudged sentences, before any plea-agreement cap, clemency, or appeal.

## Charges

All 13 records list charges, and a case with several articles counts under each one. Article 128 (assault) appeared in 5 cases (38%), the same share as service-wide. Article 120 (rape and sexual assault) appeared in 4 cases (31%), compared with 22%.

Article 112a (drug offenses) appeared in 3 cases (23%), compared with 12%. Article 121 (larceny) and Article 107 (false official statements) each appeared in 2 cases (15%).

Article 130 (housebreaking), Article 82 (soliciting), and Article 134 (general article) each appeared in 1 case (8%). The general article appeared in 17% of cases across the service.
