Based on 14 cases · 2016–2018 · Air Force records · data updated October 24, 2026

## Punitive Discharges

Of 11 convicted enlisted members, 9 received a bad-conduct or dishonorable discharge (82%). In the Air Force as a whole, 55% did. Of those 9, 3 were dishonorable discharges.

A bad-conduct discharge can come from a special or general court-martial. A dishonorable discharge can come only from a general court-martial. A sentence without a punitive discharge does not rule out a later administrative separation.

## Confinement Terms

Confinement was part of 91% of the 11 convictions. The median confinement was 8 months, compared with 4 months in the Air Force as a whole. A quarter of the sentences with confinement were 11 months or longer, and 1 was a life sentence.

These are adjudged sentences, set at trial before any plea-agreement cap, clemency, or appeal. Each one covers every charge in the case.

## Court Level and Rank

General courts-martial made up 57% of the cases (8 of 14), and special courts-martial made up the rest. A general court-martial can impose any lawful sentence, including long confinement and a dishonorable discharge.

Junior enlisted members (E-1 to E-4) made up 71% of the accused and NCOs 29%. No officers were tried. Across the Air Force, 63% of the accused were junior enlisted.

## What Was Charged

Charges are listed for 11 of the 14 cases. Article 112a (drug offenses) was charged in 6 of them (55%), compared with 48% Air Force-wide. Article 134 (the general article) was charged in 3 (27%), compared with 25%. Each other article in the table appears in 1 case. A case with several articles counts under each one.

## Verdicts and Forum

Of the 14 cases, 3 ended in a full acquittal (21%), about the same as the 20% across the Air Force. Because Air Force records from 2016 to 2019 rarely list guilty pleas, this rate is measured against all cases.

Members heard 57% of the cases: 4 enlisted panels and 4 officer panels. A military judge alone heard 6\. Across the Air Force, members heard 45% of cases.

## Similar Installations

Hill AFB, Utah and Moody AFB, Georgia each tried 20 cases in the same years. Hill had a median confinement of 6 months and a punitive discharge rate of 53%. Moody had 4 months and 67%.

## Years and Limits

There were 6 cases in 2016, 5 in 2017, and 3 in 2018\. All came before the Military Justice Act of 2016 took effect on January 1, 2019, so its changes to panel sizes, judge-alone special courts-martial, and plea agreements did not apply.

The records give trial dates, not offense dates. They do not describe the evidence or plea terms, and they do not show nonjudicial punishment or administrative separation.
