**Short answer:** Fort Leonard Wood tried 15 courts-martial in 2024, and 14 ended in guilty pleas. Every conviction included confinement, but the median confinement was 45 days, compared with 6 months across the Army. Of enlisted convictions, 43% led to a punitive discharge, compared with 72%.

Based on 15 cases · 2024 · Army records · data updated October 24, 2026

## Almost All Guilty Pleas

In 14 of the 15 cases the accused pleaded guilty, and 1 contested at least one charge. The contested share, 7%, is lower than the 27% across the Army. That 1 contested case did not end in a full acquittal.

Of the 14 guilty pleas, 13 are recorded with a plea agreement and 1 has no entry. Army records say whether there was an agreement, not what it said.

## Confinement in Every Case, Mostly Short

All 15 cases ended in a conviction, and confinement was part of 100% of the sentences. The median confinement was 45 days, shorter than the 6 months median Army-wide. A quarter of the sentences were 2 months or longer.

These are adjudged sentences, set at trial before any plea-agreement cap, clemency, or appeal. Each covers every charge in the case.

## Bad-Conduct Discharges Only

A punitive discharge for an enlisted member is a bad-conduct or a dishonorable discharge. At Fort Leonard Wood, 43% of enlisted convictions led to one: 6 bad-conduct and no dishonorable discharges. Across the Army the share was 72%.

The 1 convicted officer or warrant officer was dismissed. A sentence without a punitive discharge does not rule out a later administrative separation.

## Assault and the General Article

All 15 records list charges, and each article counts once per case. Article 128 (assault) appeared in 6 cases (40%), compared with 23% across the Army. Article 134 (general article) appeared in 5 cases (33%), compared with 21%.

Article 112a (wrongful use, possession of controlled substances), Article 128b (domestic violence), and Article 107 (false official statements) each appeared in 2 cases (13%). Domestic violence was charged less often here than the 23% across the Army.

## Rank, Court Level, and Forum

The accused were 5 junior enlisted members (E-1 to E-4), 9 NCOs (E-5 to E-9), and 1 officer or warrant officer. Across the Army, 53% of the accused were junior enlisted, so this group was more senior.

Of the 15 cases, 6 were general courts-martial (40%), compared with 72% in the rest of the Army. A special court-martial caps confinement at one year and cannot impose a dishonorable discharge. A military judge alone decided all 15 cases; across the Army, members heard 15%.

## Kaiserslautern and Fort Campbell

Kaiserslautern (Europe) tried 25 cases in 2024 and Fort Campbell tried 27\. Fort Leonard Wood had the lowest contested share of these installations, 7%, compared with 24% and 15%. Its median confinement, 45 days, was shorter than the 9 months and 8 months at the other installations, and its enlisted punitive discharge share, 43%, was lower than 87% and 91%.

## Law Changes and Missing Details

Since December 28, 2023, special trial counsel, not commanders, decide whether to prosecute covered offenses such as sexual assault, domestic violence, and murder. Offenses after December 27, 2023 are sentenced by the military judge within new sentencing parameters. The records give no offense dates, so trials in 2024 can fall under either set of rules.

Trial records show the charges, pleas, findings, and sentence. They do not show the evidence, the plea terms, or conduct handled outside a court-martial.
