**Short answer:** The records show 19 Air Force trials in July 2022\. Article 112a (drug offenses) appeared in 50% of the cases with charges listed, compared with 33% across the Air Force in 2022\. Of the 9 contested cases that reached a verdict, 5 ended in a full acquittal.

Based on 19 cases · July 2022 · Air Force records · data updated October 24, 2026

## Drug Offenses Led the Charges

14 of the 19 records list the charges, and each article counts once per case. Article 112a (drug offenses) appeared in 7 cases, or 50%. For the Air Force in all of 2022, the share was 33%.

Article 120 (rape and sexual assault) appeared in 4 cases (29%), compared with 15% for the year. Article 92 (failure to obey order or regulation) appeared in 3 (21%). Article 128 (assault) and Article 134 (general article) appeared in 2 each, both less often than in the year.

Article 107 (false official statements), Article 111 (leaving scene of vehicle accident), and Article 113 (drunken or reckless operation of vehicle) appeared in 1 case each. Air Force records rarely list charges in a full acquittal, so these shares mostly describe cases with a conviction.

## Pleas Matched the Year

10 accused pleaded guilty and 9 entered a not-guilty or mixed plea. The contested share was 47%, the same as the 47% for the Air Force in 2022\. A contested case is one where the accused pleads not guilty to at least one charge.

Of the 9 contested cases that reached a verdict, 5 ended in a full acquittal.

## Sentences for the 14 Convictions

13 of the 14 convictions carried confinement. The median confinement was 6 months, the same as the median for the Air Force in 2022\. A quarter of the confinement terms were 2 years or longer.

Among convicted enlisted members, 54% received a punitive discharge: 4 bad-conduct and 3 dishonorable. The Air Force rate for the year was 59%. The 1 convicted officer or warrant officer was not dismissed.

These are adjudged sentences, before any plea-agreement cap, clemency, or appeal. A sentence without a punitive discharge does not rule out a later administrative separation.

## July 2021 Compared With July 2022

July 2021 had 23 cases. July 2022 had 19\. The contested share went from 61% to 47%, and full acquittals in contested cases that reached a verdict went from 4 of 14 to 5 of 9.

The median confinement went from 5 months to 6 months, and convictions with confinement went from 89% to 93%. Punitive discharges for convicted enlisted members went from 68% to 54%. The general court-martial share went from 65% to 53%.

Groups this small can change with a few cases, so these comparisons show direction rather than measured trends.

## Forum, Rank, and Court Level

A military judge alone decided guilt in 12 of 19 cases (63%). Members heard 7, all with enlisted panels.

The accused were 9 junior enlisted members (E-1 to E-4), 9 NCOs (E-5 to E-9), and 1 officer or warrant officer. Across the Air Force in 2022, 58% of the accused were junior enlisted, so this group was more senior.

10 of the 19 cases were general courts-martial (53%), compared with 57% for the year. A special court-martial is limited to one year of confinement and cannot impose a dishonorable discharge.

## What These Records Leave Out

The records give trial dates, not offense dates. They do not describe the evidence or the plea terms, and they do not include nonjudicial punishment or administrative separations. Air Force records never report plea agreements.
