Oren and Alon Alexander now have 30-year federal sentences. They also still face rape charges in Miami-Dade County that no jury has heard. Getting two federal prisoners into a Florida courtroom follows its own set of rules.
The federal sentence itself, and what it means for prison time, supervision, and appeal, is covered in 30 Years, Not Life: What Happens After the Alexander Brothers' Sentence. This post looks at the state case that is still waiting.
What is pending in Miami. Oren Alexander faces two state sexual battery charges, and Alon Alexander is charged with him in one of them, according to the Miami Herald, via The Spokesman-Review, and The Real Deal. That shared case stems from an alleged New Year's Eve 2016 rape at Alon's Miami Beach condo. The Herald reports the twins pleaded not guilty. Their brother Tal is not charged in Miami, the Herald reports.
One charge already gone. In April, state prosecutors dropped a third charge against Oren tied to an alleged 2021 assault, The Real Deal and the Miami Herald, via The Daily Gazette, report.
The plan to move them. Assistant State Attorney Natalie Snyder said in April that the state would seek to bring the twins to Miami after their federal sentencing, both outlets report. The Herald reported on Oct. 28 that she was ready to request the transfer. No transfer had been reported as of Sunday.
The brothers' response. The brothers have denied drugging or raping anyone, and their lawyers say they expect to appeal the federal verdict, according to the Herald and The Real Deal. The Miami charges are allegations and are unproven.
